A stolen figure of goddess Laxmi Narayan has returned to its home in Nepal. The idol was being worshipped at Patan's Patko Tole till 1984 when the statue went missing and later traced to a museum in Dallas, US. The figure was officially handed over to the Nepal Embassy in US during an official ceremony last month after the Nepali authorities provided evidences proving its origins to the Himalayan nation. "This statue which was kept in museum of Dallas, our mission there held four rounds of meeting and we provided them the evidences which belong to us. We have provided the documents as evidence and it matched, after matching those evidences Government of United States of America agreed to return it back and handed it over to our Embassy there," said Yadav Prasad Koirala, Culture Secretary of Nepal after the figure returned in Kathmandu.
Tens of thousands of devotees gathered in Bhaktapur city in Nepal on Sunday to celebrate the arrival of New Year with chariot festival despite the coronavirus pandemic. Devotees flocked to the Taumadhi Square to take part in the "Biska Jatra" fair , where idol of Lord Bhairab was carried to the chariot and devotees were indulged in a tug of war. Devotees were seen flouting social distancing norms at the festival. The three-storey chariot made of wood in the pagoda style is pushed and pulled around the settlements with the statues of Bhairavnath and Betal as a part of this festival. This festival which has cultural and historical importance is celebrated for nine days and eight nights. Biska Jatra - one of the popular festivals of Kathmandu Valley is celebrated at the start of the new year on the Bikram Sambat calendar. It starts with the ascension of Lord Bhairab onto a chariot built in front of Nyatapola Temple, the tallest temple in Nepal.
Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, the former King of Nepal, visited Uttarakhand's Haridwar to attend the Kumbh Mela. He met many saints and seers and they were seen exchanging garlands. The month-long religious fest is being held under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rhododendron flowers are on the verge of its extinction in Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh. The environmentalists and the scientists are worried about the extinction. The state had already declared the pink Rhododendron as the 'state flower of Himachal Pradesh' as this flower is endangered wild flower species. Suresh C Attri, Environment Officer said, "The Rhododendron flower is also 'State flower'. The plant of this flower is found in 1,500 meters to 3,000 meters in north Indian Himalayan region. With the rise in temperature and rainfall, it has been worsely affected. It survives in the temperature below 15 degree Celsius and acidic soil. Researchers had also confirmed its extinction. We need to conserve and save it across the Himalayas."

As a mark of friendship and strong ties between New Delhi and Kathmandu, India gifted one lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Nepal Army on March 28. The nine packages of Covishield vaccines, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) arrived in Kathmandu, via an Air India flight late in the evening. So far, India has provided COVID-19 vaccines to over 70 countries. India has also provided medical supplies to 150 nations in the fight during pandemic.

A consignment of Covishield vaccine, by Serum Institute of India, to be dispatched from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Denmark's Copenhagen as part of the 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative. The consignment will be loaded in A Qatar airways' flight to Doha scheduled to depart at 9.15 am on March 27. So far, India has provided COVID-19 vaccines to over 70 countries.
