Amid a controversy over a cricket stadium in Gujarat being renamed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government on Wednesday said the name change involves only the Motera stadium and the entire sports complex continues to be named after Sardar Patel.
Asked about the allegations, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, however, told reporters that only the Motera stadium has been renamed and the complex continues to be named after Vallabhbhai Patel.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was present alongside Javadekar at the media briefing after a cabinet meeting, also took a swipe at the Congress leaders, asking whether party chief Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi have so far praised the world's tallest statue of Sardar Patel erected at Kevadiya in Gujarat.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14 interacted with Governors and Lieutenant Governors of all states and Union Territories on COVID-19 situation and ongoing vaccination drive in the country through video conferencing. PM Modi suggested that Governors can actively engage to ensure that social institutions collaborate seamlessly with the state governments towards micro containment. He also underlined that Centre is committed to ensuring adequate availability of vaccines. The Prime Minister added that during 'Tika Utsav', vaccination drive was expanded and new vaccination centres have also came up.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that last year, he and his party leaders collectively warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about COVID-19 virus and requested him to take action to save economy, small-scale industry and migrant labourers but media mocked him. "Last year in Feb, all Congress leaders and I collectively said to PM that India is going to be affected by COVID. You start preparing to save economy, migrant labourers and small-scale industry. Press mocked me and said I am trying to scare people,' he said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a pot shot at BJP by saying that wherever the party and its ideologue RSS go, hatred starts to intensify there. He said, "People of Assam say their history and culture are being attacked. Tamil Nadu and Bengal are facing the same thing." The fifth phase of assembly polls will be held in West Bengal on April 17.
As India battles a second COVID wave, Union Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called the 2nd wave a 'global phenomenon'. "The second wave of COVID19 is a global phenomenon. What is important is how the government is responding. Till today, around 11 crore doses of vaccine have been administered. It is a satisfactory speed," he said.
The Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu released a commemorative postage stamp in honour of former chief of Brahma Kumaris, Rajyogini Dadi Janki. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was also present at the event. "We should draw inspiration from Dadi's life which was devoted to God and selfless service of humanity. The world needs more healing voices like Dadi Janki ji," said Venkaiah Naidu.

The union minister also asked why Rahul has not yet taken the vaccine. This comes after Rahul Gandhi earlier attacked PM Modi over ‘tika utsav’. Rahul wrote a letter to PM Modi over vaccine procurement and distribution. “Shortage of vaccine is a grave issue amid rising covid cases. Not utsav, is it right to risk Indian citizens and keep exporting vaccines? Central government should help all state governments without any bias. We all have to stand together to beat the pandemic,” he said.

As the country is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, long queue of ambulances seen outside 1200-beded Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Oxygen is being administered to patients in the ambulance only. On March 12, state reported 6,021 new infections and 55 deaths. Currently, Gujarat has over 30,000 actives cases of coronavirus, out of which 7,165 are in Ahmedabad alone. Gujarat is among the 10 worst-affected states in India due to pandemic.
Gujarat's Vadodara administration has made a unique punishment for the people who violate COVID norms. If a person found violating the norms, administration clapped for them and garlanded them. Gujarat has reported over 4,500 cases on April 10.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar rejected claims of shortage in Covid-19 vaccine supply. Javadekar accused the Maharashtra government of wasting five lakh doses during the vaccination process. This comes as health ministers of some states said that there is a shortage of vaccines and demanded more doses from the Centre. Maharashtra Health minister Rajesh Tope accused the Centre of supplying less number of vaccines. Tope said that the state has only two days of stock of Covid-19 vaccines.
