Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a fatwa that imposes women in cartoons and animated features must be depicted wearing a hijab according to the sources.
A fatwa is a declaration or ruling on a point of Islamic law, which is not legally binding but is given by a recognised higher authority.
The reports further say, he answered a question posed by a news agency asking if observing compulsory hijab is necessary for characters in animated features.
On Thursday, a call for restraint echoed from Russia, Germany, and Britain to nations in the Middle East, as tensions escalated over an Iranian threat targeting Israel. Israel, in response, asserted its readiness to address all its security concerns. Lufthansa, one of the limited Western airlines serving Tehran, prolonged the suspension of its flights to the Iranian capital, citing safety concerns. Additionally, Russia cautioned against travel to the Middle East amidst the escalating situation. The backdrop of this tension is the vow of retaliation from Iran following the April 1 airstrike on its embassy compound in Damascus, which resulted in the death of a senior Iranian general and six other military officers. This incident has further strained an already tense region, compounded by the ongoing Gaza conflict. While Israel has not claimed responsibility for the airstrike, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei asserted that Israel must face consequences for the attack, likening it to an assault on Iranian soil.
