A Massive car rally was held in Canada's Greater Toronto Area by the Indian Diaspora to show their solidarity with the Indian Government in regards with the New Farm Laws. The rally also showed its solidarity with the Canadian Government's decision to import Covid Vaccine from India. More than a thousand families participated in this Car rally. However, Khalistani extremist elements tried to disrupt the car rally at different points along the route but the Car Rally organizers ignored extremists' bullying and harassment.
Some people of Indian origin staged a protest outside NDP MP Jagmeet Singh's office in Canada's Burnaby. They said that they are being targetted by Khalistan supporters due to ongoing farmers' protest in India. A protester said, "We're not against farmers' movement but this movement has actually turned into a Khalistani movement which is now targeting Hindu visible minorities. We really expect our leaders to protect everyone without any discrimination."
Indian nationals in Canada received threat calls from pro-Khalistani groups for their 'tiranga rally' in support of farm laws. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that the issue has been taken up with Canadian authorities both in Ottawa and Delhi. MEA spokesperson advised Indian nationals to report any such incidents to local police and Indian High Commission and consultants in Canada. "We have come across reports of threats and intimidation to some members of the Indian community in Canada. We have requested Canadian authorities to take steps to ensure the safety of Indian nationals in Canada," Anurag Srivastava added.
The Ministry of External Affairs responded to the status of India getting downgraded to “partly free” in the democracy report. MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that India has robust institutions and well-established democratic practices. “We do not need sermons, especially from those who cannot get their basics right,” Srivastava said. After US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of External Affairs' spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a weekly briefing on April 08 informed that at invitation of President Biden, PM Narendra Modi will participate in summit along with other world leaders. "US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry's visit was in the run-up to summit on climate, convened by the US on April 23-24 virtually," Bagchi added. Highlighting the points from the meeting, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "The meet was very productive, both sides discussed the global challenges of climate change. In the context of several multi-lateral events later this year leading up to Cop26 summit Glasgow. Special Envoy Kerry appreciated PM Modi's vision and leadership in climate action, especially our ambitious target of 420 GW of renewable energy by the year 2030."
Asserting that India has not imposed any export ban on anti-coronavirus vaccines, the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said the country has taken the lead in sending vaccines abroad with over 640 lakh doses supplied to more than 80 countries till now. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi also said the ministry's 'Vaccine Maitree' initiative to supply vaccines abroad has been "very successful and very well-liked" by our partners across the world. "As on date, under the 'Vaccine Maitree' initiative, we have supplied a total of about 644 lakh doses to the global community, and of these, 104 lakh doses have been supplied as a grant, 357 lakh doses on a commercial basis, and 182 lakh doses through the COVAX initiative," Bagchi said at an online media briefing. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on export of COVID-19 vaccines said that there is no ban and India has so far supplied it to more than 80 countries of the world. "We have not imposed any export ban on COVID-19 vaccines regarding the concern over the countries our position has been suitably conveyed through our official channels," said MEA spokesperson. "India has taken the lead on sending vaccines abroad, no country has shared with the world the number of vaccines that India has while vaccinating its own population. India has supplied more than 80 countries of the world keeping in mind domestic requirements," he added.
