Bhubaneswar boils in February, temp touches 40.6 C
India Meteorological Department (Bhubaneswar) Director, HR Biswas said that hot weather conditions prevailing in Bhubaneswar and in some districts of Odisha.
He said that Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded highest temperature for February 27.
"Bhubaneswar's airport area recorded 40.6 degree Celsius which is highest in Odisha and it may be highest in India," he said.
People line up outside the Covid-19 vaccination centre in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Some people standing in the queue claimed that there is a shortage of vaccine at the Centre. However, Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo, who is the director of Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, said that there is no shortage of Covaxin doses. Dr Sahoo added that there are reports of a shortage of Covishield doses. This comes a day after Odisha health minister Naba Kishore Das had asked the Centre to send over 25 lakh vaccine doses. Streets in Bhubaneswar were seen deserted on the festival of Holi on March 29. Odisha government has banned Holi celebrations at public places in the state in view of COVID-19 pandemic. According to the state government's health department website, Odisha currently has 1,650 active Covid-19 cases. The state's cumulative case count is 3,40,194.

COVID-19 vaccination in-charge of Odisha, Bijay Panigrahi on April 16 informed that his state is running short of vaccines amid coronavirus cases surge. "We are running short of vaccines. We don't have enough stock to run all 1,500 vaccination sites across Odisha. With this stock, only 700 vaccination sites are possible to operate," Panigrahi said to ANI.

As temperature is soaring, heat waves have gripped several states in the northern India. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heat wave conditions will further intensify in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The temperature maximum temperature recorded in Delhi was 34 degree Celsius. People are facing difficulties due to extreme hot temperature. Speaking to ANI, the scientist (DGM) in Delhi's India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr Kuldeep Srivastava said, "For next three days, temperature will increase by 3 degrees and will reach around 37 degree Celsius by April 04".

In a rare incident from Odisha's Kendrapara, a woman gave birth to conjoined twin daughters with two heads and three hands at a private hospital in Kanigaon on April 12. The newborns were shifted to Shishu Bhawan, Cuttack immediately as their health deteriorated.
Cuttack-based Navonmesh Prasar Student Astronomy Team (NaPSAT), comprising of 10 school students, designed a rover to exhibit it at Nasa Human Rover Exploration Challenge 2021. "The rover has been designed for Artemis Mission 2024 (Moon mission) where the first woman and next man will be sent to Moon. The rover is capable of travelling on different kinds of martian terrains," a member of NaPSAT said in Cuttack yesterday.
