A liquid oxygen plant has been set up in Lucknow's Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences hospital. SGPI Director Professor R.K Dhiman inaugurated the plant on April 17. COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the state capital. According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 1,50,676 active cases in Uttar Pradesh.
People line up outside the Covid-19 vaccination centre in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Some people standing in the queue claimed that there is a shortage of vaccine at the Centre. However, Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo, who is the director of Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, said that there is no shortage of Covaxin doses. Dr Sahoo added that there are reports of a shortage of Covishield doses. This comes a day after Odisha health minister Naba Kishore Das had asked the Centre to send over 25 lakh vaccine doses. Streets in Bhubaneswar were seen deserted on the festival of Holi on March 29. Odisha government has banned Holi celebrations at public places in the state in view of COVID-19 pandemic. According to the state government's health department website, Odisha currently has 1,650 active Covid-19 cases. The state's cumulative case count is 3,40,194.
Bijaya, a white tigress gave birth to three cubs at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar on March 28. The mother and cubs are doing well as of now. Doctors are keeping an eye on the tigress and newly born cubs.

Three tribal women were killed after rain triggered landslide in Odisha's Koraput where they were collecting white soil. The incident took place on April 16 and also left one person injured. The mishap took place in Podaguda which comes under Potangi police limits of Koraput district.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh reported 11,269 new coronavirus cases, 6,497 recoveries, and 66 deaths in last 24 hours.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan demanded legal action against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Viijayan, and used word 'Covidiot' for him. V Muraleedharan said, "'Covidiot' you know what it means. There's no other word that can be used for a CM who continuously violates COVID protocol. As per doctors of Calicut Medical College, Kerala CM tested positive on April 4 and on April 6 voted without following protocols that a primary contact person have to follow even if we consider it was not known to him as COVID positive."
CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas reached his hometown, Jammu on Friday. Rakeshwar was released last week after being abducted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. The jawan was warmly welcomed by family, friends who put garlands around his neck. “I am very happy that I am meeting my family today. Our soldiers were brave enough to fight back the Naxals,” Rakeshwar said. Rakeshwar was abducted by Naxals during the Sukma-Bijapur encounter on April 3. Rakeshwar, who was part of security force's elite CoBRA unit, was released on April 8. 22 security personnel were killed and 31 others were injured in the fierce gunbattle.

Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, the CoBRA jawan who was abducted by Naxals following the April 03 encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur and released later on April 08, finally met his family in Jammu on April 17. Manhas got a rousing welcome upon his arrival at Jammu airport where his family and friends were waiting for him. He expressed his happiness after meeting his family. During his abduction, Manhas's family repeatedly urged the government to ensure his safe release from the hands of Naxals. He was finally released on April 08 during a jansabha of Naxals in Bijapur. The deadly encounter in Bijapur on April 03 claimed the lives of 22 security personnel while injuring more than 30 jawans.
In an apparent case of medical apathy, a COVID-19 infected dead body in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon was transported to the crematorium on a tractor in Dongargaon village. Rajnandgaon's Chief Medical Officer Mithlesh Chaudhary said that it is not appropriate to keep the dead body a COVID victim at hospital, and the incident might have taken place in hurry. Chhattisgarh is one of the worst-hit states by COVID-19 in India with active caseload of more than 1,20,000.
