National Rice Research Institute develops solar pest management 'Alternate Energy Light Trap' device

The scientists of ICAR-National Rice Research Institute in Odisha's Cuttack have developed a solar pest management 'Alternate Energy Light Trap' device.

They received patent for the device on February 08, 2021.

'Alternate Energy Light Trap' device will help in identifying and mass trapping of insects attacking crops.

They had initially filed patent for the device in the year 2014.

Then, the final patent was filed in 2015.

While speaking to ANI, the Principal Scientist (Entomology) in Crop Protection Division of ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Dr Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra said, "We have got a patent for the device.

It helps in identifying and mass trapping of insects attacking crops."

Budding scientists ready with Rover to represent India at NASA challenge 2021

Cuttack-based Navonmesh Prasar Student Astronomy Team (NaPSAT), comprising of 10 school students, designed a rover to exhibit it at Nasa Human Rover Exploration Challenge 2021. "The rover has been designed for Artemis Mission 2024 (Moon mission) where the first woman and next man will be sent to Moon. The rover is capable of travelling on different kinds of martian terrains," a member of NaPSAT said in Cuttack yesterday.

An acid attack survivor married her long-time friend in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar. The marriage ceremony on March 1 was attended by the couple’s friends and family. Pramodini Roul, 29, got engaged to Saroj Sahoo, 30, in April 2018 in Lucknow. “I suffered an acid attack in 2009 and I met my now-husband, Saroj in 2014. I met Saroj while I was undergoing treatment, he supported me throughout the journey,” said Pramodini. Pramodini, alias Rani, was undergoing treatment when the duo met for the first time. Pramodini hails from Jagatsinghpur district while Saroj resides in Cuttack. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal also gave blessings to the couple on their marriage. Saroj said, “Through our wedding, I want to give out a message to the entire country. An acid attack doesn’t mean end of life, I love her and our relationship is of 5 years.”
