TMC leader and former Asansol mayor Jitendra Tiwary joined Bharatiya Janata Party on March 02 ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

Ex mayor Jitendra Tiwary joined party in presence of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh.

West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29.

Counting of votes will take place on May 02.

Reacting to EC's order, Ghosh said he will not stage dharna unlike CM Mamata Banerjee. Earlier, Ghosh was also sent notice by EC for his alleged remarks over the Sitalkuchi incident. Poll campaign has seen EC clamping down on several leaders for objectionable utterances. EC earlier barred Mamata from campaigning for 24 hours for remarks against central forces.
