Bengali actor Srabanti Chatterjee, who recently joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata, on March 03 said she wants to work on ground for the betterment of West Bengal, and also work for BJP's 'Sonar Bangla' ahead of state assembly elections.
He said, "I have been working on screen for many years and people have given me a lot of love.
I want to work with the people on ground and do something for West Bengal."
BJP was denied permission to hold a roadshow of Mithun Chakraborty in Kolkata's Behala. A group of party activists held a demonstration in front of Parnasree police station. Protest was led by BJP's Srabanti Chatterjee, who is contesting from Behala Paschim seat. “I have done so many campaigns, when did you see us breaking law and order. Problem is caused by them (TMC), I want to know the reason for cancellation. It is saddening that our party president (Dilip Ghosh) is being attacked. We will tolerate everything till April 21, we won't let violence mar elections,” Mithun said. Mithun, however, led a roadshow in Tollygunge for BJP's candidate Babul Supriyo. “It is a shameful incident, didi (Mamata Banerjee) is scared of defeat. She is trying to kill democracy through violence as always. They also did not give permission to campaign here, but we managed to do it,” Babul said.

Bengali actor Srabanti Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on March 01 ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The actor joined the party in presence of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and party's election in-charge in the state, Kailash Vijayvargiya. West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 02.
BJP candidate Raju Banerjee's car was allegedly attacked by goons on April 17 during the fifth phase of polls. He is the candidate from Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas. He has lodged a complaint with Election Commission. Fifth phase of pollings are underway for the 45 Assembly constituencies.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage across India, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi alleged that BJP ruled states have been receiving preferential treatment in terms of medical equipment. "Some of our chief ministers told me that they were left with a few days of vaccines. They had no oxygen and they were running out of ventilators. But there has been a thundering silence on the part of the government. Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh attacked West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over her dharna against EC's campaign ban. Ghosh blamed the Bengal CM for deaths in Cooch Behar during the fourth phase of polling. “She (Mamata) is targeting the Election Commission and giving direction to loot EVMs. Mamata Banerjee is completely responsible for the deaths (in Sitalkuchi). She is not following the decision taken by EC and is sitting on dharna. She, who protests against SC and the Constitution, will never follow law,” said Ghosh. Mamata is sitting on dharna next to a Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Kolkata's Mayo road. EC imposed a 24-hour ban on the TMC supremo from campaigning in any manner. Ban has been imposed over Mamata's remarks against the central forces. Meanwhile, EC also issued a notice to Ghosh for his remarks on the Sitalkuchi incident.
