While speaking to media in the national capital after meeting the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on March 04, National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bhupender Yadav said, "A BJP delegation met ECI today.

Term of 125 municipal corporations in West Bengal including Kolkata Municipal Corporation ended a year ago.

But state government appointed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders as administrators of these local bodies." "These administrators should be removed to ensure free and fair polls," he added.

The Election Commission of India imposed a ban on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for 24 hours from campaigning in any manner from 8 pm of April 12 till 8 pm of April 13. The ban came over her communal remarks during a speech. ECI also responded to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's reply over her appeal for votes along communal lines and said, "It is self-evident from the perusal of all reports that allegations mentioned in your hand-written note are factually incorrect, without any empirical evidence whatsoever and devoid of substance." However, Mamata Banerjee announced protest against EC's decision. She will sit on 'dharna' tomorrow from 12 noon at Gandhi Murti in Kolkata.

In a shocking incident, the EVMs and VVPATs were found at the residence of a TMC leader in Uluberia at Howrah district of West Bengal amid Assembly elections. According to Election Commission of India (ECI), "The Sector Officer has been suspended in the matter. It was a reserved EVM that has been removed from the election process and severe action will be taken against all involved. ECI stated, "Tapan Sarkar, sector officer of Sector 17 in AC 177 Uluberia Uttar at Howrah district, went with Reserve EVM and slept at a relative's house. This is a gross violation of EC's instructions for which he has been suspended and charges will be framed for major punishment. The Sector Police attached to Sector Officer has also been directed to be suspended. The said EVM and VVPAT have been taken out of the stock and shall not be used in the polls. General Observer Neeraj Pawan has checked the intactness of all seals. These EVMs have now been stored in a separate room in Observer's custody."
