Hitting back at senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh for his critique of the government's COVID-19 management, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday alleged the second wave of the pandemic was instead fuelled by Congress ruled states as they were busy raising doubts about vaccines rather than vaccinating people. Responding to Singh's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vardhan also said that the letter drafters of the senior Congress leader have done a great disservice to his standing. Tweeting the letter to Singh, the health minister said, "History shall be kinder to you Dr Manmohan Singh ji if your offer of 'constructive cooperation' and valuable advice was followed by your @INCIndia leaders as well in such extraordinary times !" Singh on Sunday wrote to Prime Minister Modi suggesting five measures to battle the COVID-19 crisis, including ramping up vaccination and boosting supply of medicines. BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda spoke on the EMV controversy in poll-bound Assam. He said that the truth on the incident involving an EVM in Karimganj had been revealed in the enquiry by the Election Commission. “There is absolutely no involvement of BJP and any political motive,” Panda said. After an EVM and EC officials were spotted in BJP candidate's car, it steered controversy followed by series of allegations. BJP in-charge in Assam, Baijayant Panda said that whenever Congress sees its defeat, they make such allegations. "It was case of car breaking down and offered help, there was no political intent behind it," said Baijayant Panda. "I urge people to read the report released by Election Commission. Perhaps there were some protocols that were not followed, result of which EC has taken punitive action on officials and ordered re-polls in that booth," added Panda.

He also lashed out at AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal over not wearing ‘gamocha’. “Rahul Gandhi has very limited knowledge of the culture of Assam. Only recently, Badruddin Ajmal disrespected the (Assamese) gamocha. Congress party can only indulge in the politics of opportunism,” he said. “People who set these guarantees have very limited knowledge. The five guarantees by Congress is a display of mental bankruptcy,” he added. The three-phase Assam polls will conclude on April 6, votes will be counted on May 2.

Assam recorded a voter turnout of nearly 75 percent in the second phase of polling, according to the latest figures from the Election Commission. The second phase election was held in 39 constituencies across 13 districts. According to EC data, the voter turnout was 74.76 percent at 7.30 pm. The polling ended at 6 pm.
