Sri Lankan govt has engaged directly with investors on WCT project: MEA
While addressing a press conference in the national capital on March 05, the official spokesperson, Anurag Srivastava clarified on plans for West Container Terminal (WCT) in Sri Lanka.
Srivastava said, "Our High Commission in Colombo has already conveyed to the Sri Lanka government that their media release in so far as reference to approval of High Commission was concerned, is factually incorrect." "We understand that the government of Sri Lanka has engaged directly with investors on this project," he added.
The Ministry of External Affairs responded to the status of India getting downgraded to “partly free” in the democracy report. MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that India has robust institutions and well-established democratic practices. “We do not need sermons, especially from those who cannot get their basics right,” Srivastava said. India’s status was downgraded to partly free in the recent annual report published by Freedom House. Watch the full video for more details.

Canadians of Indian origin protested against attacks by alleged Khalistan supporters on Hindu minorities over the ongoing farmers' protest in India. The protesters gathered outside NDP MP Jagmeet Singh’s office and demanded that all Indian nationals be protected without any discrimination. They alleged that farmers stir had become a Khalistani movement and said that Hindu minorities are being targeted by these groups in Canada. This comes after the Ministry of External Affairs also asked Indian citizens to report any threats and attacks to the local police and the embassy. Shantir Ogrosena, multinational military exercise, concluded in Bangladesh on April 12.The armed forces of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated in the exercise. Observers from the US, UK, Turkey and Saudi Arabia also participated. The multilateral UN-mandated counterterrorism exercise was held from April 4-12. The Indian Army contingent that participated comprised of 30 personnel. Indian Army chief Gen M M Naravane attended the closing ceremony of the exercise. A 10-day multinational military exercise named 'Shantir Ogrosena' in which troops of four countries including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated, culminated on April 12 in Bangladesh. The exercise also included observers from the US, UK, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and others. The exercise from April 4-12, was organised to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth centenary and celebrate the golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh. The aim of the exercise was to strengthen defence ties and enhance interoperability amongst neighbourhood countries to ensure effective peacekeeping operations, the Indian Army said on April 12.

The controversy surrounding Mrs Sri Lanka 2021 came to a dramatic end on Tuesday (April 6) after the winner of the country's top beauty pageant was re-crowned as the champion.A video of the Sunday (April 4) event opened with the 2019 winner of the competition and reigning Mrs World, Caroline Jurie, speaking to the audience shortly after the winner and runners-up were announced in Colombo. Jurie declared that Pushpika De Silva was ineligible as the winner because she was divorced, and forcibly removed her crown.National Director of Mrs Sri Lanka World told the media on Tuesday the crown would be returned to De Silva after pageant organisers confirmed she was not a divorcee.
