Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the inaugural session of Indian Air Force commanders' conference at Air Headquarters in Delhi on April 15. It is the first bi-annual Indian Air Force (IAF) Commanders' Conference for the year 2021. IAF Chief RKS Bhadauria was also present in the conference. Conference aims to address strategies and policies related to IAF capabilities.
To enhance its airbases' security, Indian Air Force has inducted 6-tonne Light Bullet Proof Vehicles. These vehicles can withstand any type of bullet and grenade attacks, and would help in countering any terrorist attack. These Light Bullet Proof Vehicle can carry 6 Garud commandos, Quick Reaction Team members.
Nilanshi Patel from Modasa in Gujarat, who won the Guinness World Record title for the longest hair on a teenager three years ago, has finally cut her hair for the first time in 12 years. According to Guinness World Records, Nilanshi won the title for the longest hair ever on a teenager in 2018. Around a minute-long video was shared by the Guinness World Records on Instagram that documented Nilanshi’s haircut.The final seconds of the video showed the 18-year-old teenager kissing her long locks before bidding them goodbye and embracing her new haircut.

Amid a controversy over a cricket stadium in Gujarat being renamed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government on Wednesday said the name change involves only the Motera stadium and the entire sports complex continues to be named after Sardar Patel. Asked about the allegations, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, however, told reporters that only the Motera stadium has been renamed and the complex continues to be named after Vallabhbhai Patel. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was present alongside Javadekar at the media briefing after a cabinet meeting, also took a swipe at the Congress leaders, asking whether party chief Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi have so far praised the world's tallest statue of Sardar Patel erected at Kevadiya in Gujarat. Four HELINA anti-tank missiles were launched from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv helicopter in the Rajasthan sector on Friday said Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials. The HELINA anti-tank missiles were test-fired during the joint user trials by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF). As many as four HELINA anti-tank missiles were successfully launched from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv helicopter in Rajasthan sector today (February 19). According to reports, four missions were carried out for evaluating missile capabilities in minimum and maximum range of 7 kms. The final mission was carried out with warhead missile against a derelict tank. All the mission objectives were met, the DRDO officials said. The HELINA anti-tank missiles were test-fired during the joint user trials by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).

The demand of oxygen has been doubled in several parts of Gujarat amid surge in COVID-19 cases. Oxygen plants are working overtime to fulfill the demands of the hospitals. Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Ahmedabad among other smaller districts have emerged as highest consumers of medical oxygen. The demand of medical oxygen has increased as critical cases pile up in private and government hospitals. According to owner of Mukesh Patel, the demand of medical oxygen has risen from 20-30 per cent. Gujarat has reported 8,152 new COVID-19 cases and 81 deaths in last 24 hours.
Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, queue of ambulances seen waiting outside Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad on April 14 to admit patients. "10 days earlier, about 2800-2900 cases reported daily. But these days we are getting 4500-4600 daily cases. Emergency flow increased to 50%. Almost more cases are corona related. There are 625 ambulances working for 108 services. Also, we had added 60 more ambulances. Hospital wait time has exceeded as it's not the duty of 108 to assign the hospitals to corona patients. One has to call Municipal Corporation," said Hospital's Head of Emergency Satish Patel.
In a joint venture of Municipal Corporation and Neuberg Supratech, drive-through RT-PCR testing has been launched at GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad on April 14 to ramp up COVID testing amid rising cases. Those who came for the test, have to scan QR code. After registration, their vehicles are allowed inside for testing. Director of Neuberg Supratech Laboratory, Dr Sandip Shah said, "It's a joint venture and first time initiative in the country. We are assumed to take around 5000-6000 samples through drive through testing and disposing off a car within 3 minutes. We will provide reports within 36 hours. It will help to contain COVID by limiting the rush."
As the country is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, long queue of ambulances seen outside 1200-beded Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Oxygen is being administered to patients in the ambulance only. On March 12, state reported 6,021 new infections and 55 deaths. Currently, Gujarat has over 30,000 actives cases of coronavirus, out of which 7,165 are in Ahmedabad alone. Gujarat is among the 10 worst-affected states in India due to pandemic.
