Union Health Minister on April 20 said that the Centre is creating temporary beds in hospitals and is also working on increasing the manpower. "Last year, over 80% people were treated under home isolation. "Our start is good but we need to increase our facilities more," added Harsh Vardhan. As Covid cases continue to surge across the nation, Health Minister harsh Vardhan has said that he is not in favour of a national lockdown. He said that a lockdown was necessary in the first wave when the government used the period to ramp up health infrastructure. ‘Over one year, people have learnt how to fight Covid. Congress MLA from Bhopal (SW) PC Sharma is on a 21-hour fast against the management of COVID crises that has engulfed Madhya Pradesh. PC Sharma came down heavy on Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government for poor management of COVID facilities and alleged shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir injections. PC Sharma said, "There is oxygen and Remdesivir shortage. They're not available for them (people) but are being black marketed for Rs 20,000. People are dying daily, what is it? How come the government failed."
Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan on April 11 informed that no complete lockdown will be imposed amid COVID cases continue to surge in the state. "There is no shortage of oxygen. 4,000 Remdesivir injections are already available and 5,000 injections will arrive today. We are observing Tika (vaccination) Utsav in the entire state. No Lockdown will take place in Madhya Pradesh," he said. Madhya Pradesh has reported over 4,900 cases on Apr 10.
Amid increasing COVID-19 cases in state, Madhya Pradesh government has announced lockdown in all urban areas starting from April 09, 6 pm to April 11 6 am. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "For cities where cases have increased, appropriate action will be taken after meeting of crisis mgmt group. We're making containment areas in big cities." Bhopal's first Oxygen bank was set up on April 21, wherein BJP leader Rahul Kothari donated 40 oxygen generators through Sarokar organization. These oxygen concentrators are valuable for mildly symptomatic patients. Bhopal collector Avinash Lavania said, "Patients will not be required to come to the hospital, instead these oxygen concentrators which can maintain the flow up to 50lmp will be provided at their home. These are for patients who are mildly symptomatic or who need less oxygen support."
A consignment of 15,000 Remdesivir injections reached Indore from Karnataka's Bengaluru on April 20. The vaccines will be further distributed across cities in Madhya Pradesh. According to Additional Collector of Indore, Ajaydev Sharma, the vaccines will be further transported to Rewa, Bhopal, Ratlam, Gwalior, Shahdol and Jabalpur. On April 20, MP reported 12,897 fresh COVID-19 cases.
Amid worsening COVID situation in the country, oxygen cylinders were looted by some people at Damoh District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh. The incident happened on April 20. "We've been told that as soon as Oxygen truck came, people looted cylinders even when the hospital has adequate Oxygen supply.
