Smriti Irani took a jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a rally in Salboni on March 14.
The Union minster said that Bengal has decided to part ways with TMC.
While addressing a public rally at Salboni to support Midnapore BJP candidate Samit Das, she said, “The way elections are taking place, the whole country has become aware that the people of Bengal have decided that TMC will be departing this time.
''Pishi' (Aunt) and 'Bhaipo' (Nephew) are going, and the BJP government is coming to Bengal.” On March 14, Mamata held a roadshow in wheelchair days after injury.
Banerjee was injured on March 10 & admitted to SSKM hospital in Kolkata.
Banerjee alleged she was pushed by unknown miscreants in Nandigram.

During her speech at West Bengal Assembly on May 08, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded universal vaccine program across the country. She said, "Rs 30,000 crores is nothing for the central government...There should be a universal vaccine program for all throughout the country." It was her first speech after taking oath as West Bengal CM for the 3rd consecutive time. She also questioned Centre's move to send 4-member MHA team amid post-poll violence reports. She said, "Why is there so much discrimination with Bengal? They sent the central team within 24 hours of oath-taking. Actually, they (BJP) are not ready to accept the public mandate. I never support violence. They are spreading fake news and fake videos."
A 4-member Union Home Ministry team visited Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on May 07. MHA deputed the team to assess ground situation amid post-poll violence in Bengal. The violence has been reported in several parts of West Bengal after Assembly results. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC won the recent-concluded West Bengal polls by majority.
Union Minister Smriti Irani arrived in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi to meet the family members of deceased BJP MLA Dal Bahadur Kori, who died of COVID-19. She hugged his wife and consoled her, at the latter's residence. She is on a visit to her Amethi constituency to assess the ground situation of COVID management.
Former Attorney General & Constitutional law expert Soli Sorabjee died on Friday. The 91-year-old veteran lawyer passed away after getting infected with Covid-19. Sorabjee had served as the Attorney General for India from 1989-90 & then from 1998-2004. The Former Attorney General was admitted to a private hospital in South Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled Sorabjee's demise. VP Venkaiah Naidu, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, RS Prasad and Smriti Irani also paid their tribute to the former Attorney General. NCP chief Sharad Pawar and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also tweeted and expressed their condolences. Born in 1930, Soli Sorabjee had been honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2002.

The first convocation of 31 students of National Institute of Fashion Technology Srinagar was held in Srinagar's Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre on April 09. Oath taking ceremony of newly elected MLAs of Bengal was held inside the state Legislative Assembly on May 07. MLAs of West Bengal took oath as members of the state assembly in Kolkata. All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) got an absolute majority on its own by bagging 213 seats in the 294-member assembly. While BJP ended with 38% vote-share, it won 77 seats and became principal opposition party in WB.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over violence in the state. Javadekar slammed TMC over the attack on Union Minister V Muraleedharan. Earlier in the day, the minister’s convoy was attacked. Muraleedharan alleged that his convoy was “attacked by TMC goons”. As West Bengal is witnessing series of political killings following the elections results of state assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on May 06 announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the victims of the post-poll violence. CM Mamata said that 16 people were killed in the violence. Mamata further said 16 people were killed since the results were announced and the violence took the equal toll on both BJP and TMC workers. "Those who died in the post-poll violence will be given a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs each without any discrimination. Under law and order by EC, 16 were killed half of whom are from TMC and half from BJP, one was from Sanjukta Morcha," said CM Mamata.
A 10-member BJP delegation, led by state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh, met the four-member team from Home Ministry at the BSF office in Kolkata. MHA deputed the team to assess the ground situation amid the post-poll violence in West Bengal. Additional Secretary in Home Ministry Govind Mohan, Additional Secretary in Education Ministry Vinit Joshi, Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau Janardan Singh and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) IB, Nalin are among the team. Violence has been reported in several parts of West Bengal after post-poll results.
