Bangladeshi cattle lifter killed in BSF firing in Tripura

A Bangladeshi cattle lifter was killed in a Border Security Force (BSF) firing on Saturday.

The incident occurred close to the border fencing at Yakubnagar in North Tripura.

BSF and state police officials including SP North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakrabory inspected the incident spot.

BSF DIG Rajeev Dua said that a BSF trooper had opened fire from a non-lethal pump actiongun in self-defense as the group of smugglers tried to attack with a lethal weapon as troopers challenged their attempt to cut border fencing to smuggle stolen cattle herd.

The dead body identified as Bappa Mia from Botole village will be handed over to Bangladesh authorities, on a proper receipt, after observing the necessary legal formalities.
