Speaking on the accusation on Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of directing suspended cop Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore, state Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Nawab Malik on March 22 said there will be a probe (against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh) in the matter and party will take a call only after probe.
"Param Bir Singh's letter raises questions, it was written after transfer.

Earlier, in an ongoing investigation in the Mukesh Ambani bomb scare case and Sachin Waze case, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, in a letter to Maharasthra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, accused state HM Deshmukh of demanding extortion money from Waze.

CBI has booked former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh over corruption allegations. The probe agency also carried out searches at various locations in Mumbai on Saturday. Corruption charges against Deshmukh were levelled by ex-Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh. CBI had carried out preliminary enquiry on Bombay HC orders to look into the allegations. Officials said CBI got enough prima facie material during enquiry to start a formal probe. CBI has registered an FIR against Deshmukh under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After lodging case, CBI started a search operation at a number of locations in Mumbai. On March 25, Param Bir Singh filed criminal PIL seeking a CBI probe against Deshmukh. Singh claimed Deshmukh had asked cops including suspended Sachin Waze to extort money. Singh had made the revelations after he was transferred as Mumbai Police Commissioner. Deshmukh, who is an NCP leader, resigned from the State cabinet on April 5.

Union Minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar lashed out at Maharashtra government over extortion allegations against Anil Deshmukh and Sachin Waze case. "It is clear that Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is actually 'Maha Vasooli Aghadi'. Its common minimum programme is 'collect money through police'," said Prakash Javadekar.

Former Attorney General & Constitutional law expert Soli Sorabjee died on Friday. The 91-year-old veteran lawyer passed away after getting infected with Covid-19. Sorabjee had served as the Attorney General for India from 1989-90 & then from 1998-2004. The Former Attorney General was admitted to a private hospital in South Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled Sorabjee's demise. VP Venkaiah Naidu, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, RS Prasad and Smriti Irani also paid their tribute to the former Attorney General. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on April 28 said the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has approved around Rs 6,500 crore to provide free vaccination for people between 18-44 years in the state. Tope explained that the state has nearly 5.71 crore people in the above mentioned age group and thus the state would require 12 crore doses for their vaccination. The third phase of vaccination, covering people aged 18-44 years, will start from May 01 even as several states have expressed concerns over availability of vaccines.

As the National Investigation Agency's probe into the Mukesh Ambani bomb scare continues, CCTV footage of main accused Sachin Vaze surfaced. The footage, dated March 4 at 7 pm, reportedly showed the suspended police officer going to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai. He was dressed in a shirt and trousers. In the latest development in Mansukh Hiren death case, a CCTV footage has surfaced purportedly showing Sachin Waze going to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 7 pm on March 05. Waze had taken a local train to Thane that day. He was brought to CSMT on April 05 for scene recreation. Officials from Pune's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) were also present. Waze is an accused in the death case of Mansukh Hiran, the businessman who owned the explosive-laden car parked outside Mukesh Ambani's house Antilia on February 25. Body of Mansukh Hiren was found at Kalwa creek in Thane on March 05.
