The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the petitions filed by the Maharashtra government and its former home minister Anil Deshmukh challenging the Bombay High Court order directing a preliminary enquiry by the CBI into the allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled against him by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. The bench in its order stated, "Nature of allegations and personas involved needs an enquiry by an independent agency. It is a matter of public confidence. We are not inclined to entertain this. dismissed." "They are closely working together till they fall apart, both holding a particular position. Then should the CBI not investigate?" the bench asked. Anil Deshmukh’s resignation from the post of Maharashtra home minister has triggered a fresh wave of turmoil in the ruling Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi. However, if sources are to be believed, the NCP already has a leader lined up to replace Anil Deshmukh. Dilip Walse Patil, the current minister for labour, and excise, will most likely replace Anil Deshmukh as Maharashtra home minister.

Soon after Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik informed that Anil Deshmukh no more wanted to remain in his post. "After the high court order, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh met Pawar Ji and party leaders and said he doesn't want to remain in the post because the inquiry will be there. He went to tender his resignation to the CM. Party has requested to the CM to accept his resignation," said Nawab Malik. Anil Deshmukh's resignation comes amid corruption allegations by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. In his resignation letter to Maharashtra CM, Home Minister said he doesn't find it morally correct to continue as the home minister after Bombay High Court's order.
BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, has alleged that Mumbai Police on April 17 arrested a remdesivir supplier whom BJP had approached to supply the anti-viral drug to the state amid the surge in COVID cases. Fadnavis said, "Four days ago we had requested Bruck Pharma to supply us (Remdesivir) but they couldn't until permission was given. I spoke with Union Min Mansukh Mandviya and we got FDA's permission, but at about 9 pm, police arrested him (supplier)." LoP visited the police station where the supplier was held. "DCP told us that they received inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and wanted to verify the same. We showed them permission letter. He (DCP) said it wasn't communicated to them. Whatever happened was wrong," said Devendra Fadnavis.
In a post on Twitter on Wednesday, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took a dig at their competitor Swiggy for delivering orders after 8pm in Mumbai amid the coronavirus pandemic. Deepinder Goyal, in his now-viral post, attached a screenshot from food delivery platform Swiggy’s application and tagged Mumbai Police, asking for a clarification. After Mumbai police clarified, he apologised to Swiggy.
