Assam EVM row | 'Truth revealed in EC enquiry, BJP not involved': Baijayant Panda

BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda spoke on the EMV controversy in poll-bound Assam.

He said that the truth on the incident involving an EVM in Karimganj had been revealed in the enquiry by the Election Commission.

“There is absolutely no involvement of BJP and any political motive,” Panda said.

He claimed that an official vehicle broke down, so they were offered help by another vehicle.

A video surfaced on social media purportedly showing EVM in a BJP candidate’s car.

The incident took place following the second phase of polling in Assam on April 1.

Election Commission has suspended four officials including the presiding officer in the matter.

It was case of 'car breaking down and offered help': Assam BJP in-charge

After an EVM and EC officials were spotted in BJP candidate's car, it steered controversy followed by series of allegations. BJP in-charge in Assam, Baijayant Panda said that whenever Congress sees its defeat, they make such allegations. "It was case of car breaking down and offered help, there was no political intent behind it," said Baijayant Panda. "I urge people to read the report released by Election Commission. Perhaps there were some protocols that were not followed, result of which EC has taken punitive action on officials and ordered re-polls in that booth," added Panda.
