All India NR Congress (AINRC) president N Rangasamy took oath as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on May 07. The oath was administered by Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. AINRC won 10 seats in Assembly elections while its ally BJP bagged six seats.
The voting for Assembly elections is underway in Puducherry on April 06. All India NR Congress chief N Rangaswamy visited Appa Paithiyam Swamy Temple and offered prayers today. Then, he cast his vote at Govt Boys Middle School in Thilaspet. Rangaswamy is contesting Puducherry elections from Thattanchavady and Yanam constituencies. Meanwhile, BJP Puducherry president V Saminathan exercised his right to vote today. He is candidate from Lawspet constituency. 30 constituencies are undergoing voting to choose 15th Puducherry Assembly today.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its manifesto for Puducherry Assembly elections on March 26. It was released by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Giriraj Singh. BJP announced nine candidates from the UT in the upcoming polls. Puducherry elections are scheduled to be held in a single phase, with the polling on April 6 and counting of votes on May 2.
Newly elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin on May 07 visited M Karunanidhi's memorial in Chennai. He paid floral tribute to former the CM. Stalin took oath as CM of TN at Raj Bhavan in Chennai today. DMK bagged 133 seats in the 234-member assembly.
Bihar govt has announced lockdown in the state till May 15 in view of rising Covid cases. CM Nitish Kumar took to twitter and announced the decision on Tuesday morning. The chief minister declared lockdown after a meeting with cabinet colleagues and senior govt officials. The state-wide lockdown will come into effect from Wednesday, May 5. Decision comes in the backdrop of hospitals reporting shortage of medical oxygen, medicines, etc. On Monday, Patna HC pulled up the state govt saying it lacked medical infrastructure. Bihar reported 11,407 cases on Monday taking the number of active cases to 107,667.

All India Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee submitted her resignation as CM of West Bengal to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at Raj Bhavan on May 03. Petrol and diesel prices witnessed a minor surge in the national capital and stood at Rs 90.74 and Rs 81.12 per litre, respectively on Wednesday. The petrol prices were increased by 19 paise per litre and diesel by 21 paise in Delhi. Rates have been increased across the country and differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax. In Mumbai, the price of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 97.12 and Rs 88.19 per litre respectively. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai was Rs 92.70 and Rs 86.09 per litre respectively and Rs 90.92 and Rs 83.98 per litre in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Congress slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the rise in the prices of petrol and diesel."Elections are over, Modi ji has shown taken off his mask, petrol-diesel prices started increasing; Modi ji, now it has been proved that you decide the price of petrol and diesel, not oil companies," tweeted Madhya Pradesh Congress in Hindi. They also shared a newspaper clipping whose headline reads "Petrol and diesel prices increased as soon as elections are over. Petrol in Bhopal up by 24 and diesel by 22 paise".
With Jammu and Kashmir in a lockdown till 7 am on May 3, Srinagar wore a deserted look. The streets were empty, and shops shuttered, as the Union Territory tries to curb the ongoing Covid wave. Amid spiralling COVID-19 cases and deaths, Jammu and Kashmir government announced 84-hour-long lockdown, starting from 7pm on April 29 to 7 am on May 03 in several districts of Union Territory. Police patrolled in markets of Udhampur in order to ensure guidelines are being adhered. Cases are being lodged against curfew violators. Only essential service will be exempted.
