The country is witnessing exponential surge in COVID-19 cases and because of which several states have imposed lockdown in order to break the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Kerala Government too has imposed a nine-day lockdown to contain disease transmission. The streets wore a deserted look in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala police was on strict vigil to enforce lockdown restrictions. Only essential services have been exempted of the restrictions. The state-wide lockdown which was enforced from May 8 will end on 16, 2021.
As India struggles with its worst Covid wave, requests for plasma donations have flooded various social media platforms. Oncologist Dr Sameer Kaul speaks to Hindustan Times and explains the dos and don’ts of plasma donation; who can donate and the risks involved. As India struggles to control the spread of the second wave of the Covid pandemic, doctors in the country are now warning about the overuse of steroids. Speaking to Hindustan Times’ Aditi Prasad, Dr. Jalil Parkar said many patients who recovered after being given steroids came back a few months later with multiple problems. ‘1 lakh out of the 2 crore odd Covid patients could end up with diabetes if people do not know when to stop using steroids,’ Dr. Parkar warned. Dr Amit Thadani, Medical Director at Niramaya Hospitals also said that there is no role of steroids in treating mild cases and said that use of should be judicious.
