‘Hurled crude bombs’: Dilip Ghosh alleges attack by TMC workers in North Bengal
The BJP's West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday alleged that Trinamool Congress workers attacked his car with bombs and bricks in Cooch Behar district of North Bengal, a charge denied by the ruling party.
Ghosh said that the car's window glasses including the one on his side were smashed in the attack which took place at Sitalkuchi after a public meeting of his party.
Cooch Behar district will go to polls in the fourth phase of assembly elections on April 10.
On Monday, the Election Commission issued reprimands to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their comments concerning West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and actor Kangana Ranaut, respectively.
“The Commission, in its order today after the receipt of their replies to notices issued to them over MCC violations, said they are convinced that they made a low-level personal attack and thus violated the provisions of Model Code of Conduct. They have been warned to remain careful in public utterances during the Model Code of Conduct period” an EC source said. The Election Commission had on March 27 issued show-cause notices to Ghosh and Shrinate, finding that both had prima facie violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

India's mammoth election began, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a third term amid promises of economic growth and Hindu nationalism. His Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faces a diverse opposition coalition, with concerns over unemployment and minority rights.
