CM Banerjee challenged PM Modi by saying if she hasn't done anything for 'Matua community' then she will "quite the politics". "Narendra Modi said at a meeting in Krishnanagar that Mamata didi did nothing for Matua community. I'm publicly asking him to accept the challenge, if I haven't done anything for them then I will leave politics, if you are lying then you will do sit-ups holding ears," she said. Halfway through the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission of India has got a new chief. On April 13, Sushil Chandra took charge as the 24th CEC, succeeding Sunil Arora. On the latter's last day in office, the EC barred Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours. Chandra became an Election Commissioner in 2019, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Clash broke out between BJP and TMC workers during a roadshow of party state president Dilip Ghosh's in West Bengal's Bardhaman on April 13. Party workers of BJP, TMC pelted stones at each other. Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) under its Madadgaar project on Aprik 12 organised a 'Day out' picnic for the disabled youths at the famous Tulip garden in Srinagar. About 25 people were taken out for a day of fun, out of which 18 were disabled and 7 were helpers of them. CRPF also provided transport and refreshment to these disabled youths keeping in mind COVID norms. Such initiative was taken for disabled ones to give a change to the disabled usually living inside their homes and it was also an opportunity for them to interact with the normal people.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for violence that happened during fourth phase of polls in Cooch Behar's Sitalkuchi. The violent incident had claimed lives of four people. "Didi is abusing BJP unnecessarily. You're mistaken that BJP is contesting against you. It is the mothers, sisters of North Bengal, Rajbongshi community, the Gorkha community, the tea workers, the farmers who are contesting against you," said Amit Shah. People listened to her, weapons were snatched, bullets were fired, four people died. Didi had you not instigated them they wouldn't have died. A fifth person also died. A youth, Anand Burman had gone to cast his vote but TMC goons shot him dead. Didi is speaking about the 4 but nothing on Anand Burman. Why? It's because he belonged to Rajbongshi community that is not a part of her vote bank." Eight-phase Bengal elections will conclude on April 29.

Ban has been imposed over Mamata's remarks against the central forces. Meanwhile, EC also issued a notice to Ghosh for his remarks on the Sitalkuchi incident.
