In a viral video, a man was seen firing a gun after the results of Gram Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh. The incident took place during the celebrations of the result declared. The accused has been arrested and investigation is underway.
As weekend curfew continues in Uttar Pradesh, people in the city are facing difficulties in getting cash from ATMs. "I needed cash for my daughter's marriage but most of the ATMs have run out of cash in the city," says a local. Uttar Pradesh government extended weekend lockdown to three days. However, Medical shops and hospitals will remain open during the lockdown. The weekend lockdown in the state will now be in place from Friday night till Tuesday morning.

Amid a severe wave of Covid-19 infections, several bodies were spotted floating in the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh. Locals in Hamirpur spotted the corpses and alerted the police. A local councillor claimed that amid Covid infections, people were fearful and not helping each other, so bodies were being dumped in the river. Police said that people in Kanpur were responsible. A viral video purportedly showing a COVID victim's body being dumped into the bank of a river in Bihar's Katihar district. The incident took place on May 07. "Strict action will be taken," District Magistrate Udayan Mishra said media persons.

Delhi court on April 15 granted bail to former JNU student leader Umar Khalid in connection with the northeast Delhi violence case. The court noted that he can't be made to incarcerate in jail for infinity merely on account that others who were part of the mob have to be identified and arrested in the matter. Khalid was arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). More than 750 cases were registered in the northeast Delhi violence, in which at least 53 people were killed and several others injured. So far, over 250 charge sheets have been filed in the riots-related cases in which 1,153 accused have been charge-sheeted. The violence broke out in northeast Delhi between Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) supporters and protesters on Feb 24, 2020. Umar Khalid got arrested last year in the matter.
