Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi sustained injuries after the car in which he was travelling was hit by a tractor in Nilagiri area of Odisha's Balasore district on May 9. The local police rushed to the spot and the minister was taken to Nilgiri Hospital in Balasore district for treatment. The police also confiscated the tractor. The tractor lost its balance and hit the minister's car, as per reports. The minister said he escaped with minor injuries on nose and was fine. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia on May 09 slammed Central government over COVID vaccines exported to other countries. He said, "Govt of India exported COVID vaccines to 93 countries in last 3 months. It gave 6.5 crore doses to them. Around 1 lakh people have died of COVID during the second wave in India. If not exported, these vaccines could have saved the lives of these people." "Was it (export of vaccines to other countries) done just to improve the image of Central government?" he asked.
Amid oxygen crisis across the country in wake of COVID-19 second wave, Government of India (GoI) is planning to use gaseous oxygen for medical purposes from the industries. While addressing a press conference over COVID situation in the country, Joint Secretary of Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal on May 03 informed, "We're planning to use gaseous oxygen for medical purposes. Industrial units that make oxygen which is suitable for medical purpose and are near cities, we're planning to make temporary COVID care centers with oxygenated beds around them."
A consignment of 25 boxes of Covishield vaccine arrived at Raipur from Mumbai. Following Chhattisgarh High Court orders, the stare government had commenced vaccination drive for citizens between 18-44 age groups. The state required vaccines in order to continue the vaccination process.
Health Minister of Chhattisgarh, TS Singh Deo on May 08 said the state government will receive 3.50 lakh doses of Covishield today and the further vaccination will go on with this. "We received 1.50 lakh Covaxin doses from Bharat Biotech on May 1 and the vaccination is going on with that. We'll receive 3.50 lakh doses of Covishield today and the vaccination will further go on with this," Deo said media persons.
