Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan attended ICMR's 'One Health' symposium on April 12.

He said, "With increased interaction between humans and animals, human health can't be seen in isolation and COVID-19 is more than a reminder... "One Health" approach recognises that people's health is closely connected with animals' health... Earth has experienced changes in climate and land use with practices like deforestation, intensive farming.

Disruptions in environmental habitats can provide new opportunities for diseases to pass to animals."

Amid India's worst Covid wave yet, a sliver of hope emerged. The Union government revealed districts without new cases in weeks. 32 districts have not seen any new cases in almost a month. The Union health minister revealed the stats during ministers' meet. “For the last 7 days, 180 districts haven't seen new cases. 18 districts haven't seen new cases in the last 14 days. 54 districts haven't seen new cases in the last 21 days and 32 districts have not seen new cases in the last 28 days,” said Harsh Vardhan. However, India did add over 4 lakh new cases in just 24 hours. India currently has over 37 lakh active cases and over 2.38 lakh deaths. Watch the full video for more.

High-level committee constituted for Eco-Health Initiatives in India: Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan attended ICMR's 'One Health' symposium on April 12 and announced constitution of a high-level steering committee for Eco-Health Initiatives in India. He said, "COVID-19 demonstrates the rapid spread of novel pathogens which can have a significant impact on the global economy... Preparedness for, and mitigation of such events require a 'One Health' approach." He further said, "I'm pleased to announce the constitution of a high-level steering committee for Eco-Health Initiatives in India. This committee will have its secretariat hosted at the ICMR, and will be supported by the upcoming the National Institute for One Health."

India logs highest single day COVID-19 deaths

India reported highest single-day death on May 08 ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began. With 4,187 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll reached 2,38,270. The country reported 4,01,078 new COVID-19 infections on May 07 taking the total COVID caseload to 2,18,92,676. Currently there are 37,23,446 active cases in the country. In last 24 hours, 3,18,609 people have won the battle against the virus. Vaccination drive is underway across country and so far 16,73,46,544 vaccine doses have been inoculated. According to Indian Council of Medical Research 30,04,10,043 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till May 07.

India records highest daily deaths as COVID engulfs country

India recorded highest single-day death toll on May 05 ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began. With 3,780 deaths in the last 24 hours, the tally has reached 2,26,188. 3,82,315 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday with 3,38,439 discharges. Total cases now stands at 2,06,65,148 with 34,87,229 active cases. Till now, 16,04,94,188 beneficiaries have been vaccinated.
