Sushil Chandra on April 13 took charge as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner.

Chandra replaces Sunil Arora who retired on April 12.

Sushil Chandra was appointed as Election Commissioner in 2019 before Lok Sabha elections.

Halfway through the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission of India has got a new chief. On April 13, Sushil Chandra took charge as the 24th CEC, succeeding Sunil Arora. On the latter's last day in office, the EC barred Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours. Chandra became an Election Commissioner in 2019, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
