Two former paratroopers accused of the murder of an Official IRA leader have been formally acquitted after prosecutors offered no further evidence at their trial.The veterans’ trial at Belfast Crown Court collapsed after the Public Prosecution Service confirmed it would not appeal against a decision by Mr Justice O’Hara to exclude statements given by the ex-soldiers about the shooting of Joe McCann in 1972.It was the first trial in several years that involved charges against former military personnel who served in the Northern Ireland conflict.Four other cases involving the prosecution of veterans are at the pre-trial stage in the region’s courts.

As the country is reeling under the horrific second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, locals in Shivamogga thronged the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market turning eyes from COVID-19 protocols. COVID protocols including social distancing norms were flouted at the market. Karnataka is observing Janta Curfew during the weekend to curb the spread of the virus. A two-week lockdown will remain in place across the state between May 10 andMay 24.
In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 infection, Goa government had announced a two-week curfew in the state from May 9 till May 23. Essential services have been exempted, grocery shops are allowed to remain open from 7am-1pm and for restaurant only takeaway orders are allowed from 7am- 7pm. RT-PCR negative test report or vaccination (both doses) certificate has been made mandatory for tourists visiting Goa.
