Home Minister Amit Shah today conducted roadshow in Krishnanagar ahead of 5th phase of West Bengal assembly elections.
Massive crowd joined the roadshow despite surging cases of coronavirus in the country, Today, Election Commission had called for all-party meeting in West Bengal to ensure strict implementation of COVID guidelines.
In what is being called a historic win, the Trinamool Congress defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party's formidable election machine to defend the West Bengal throne. BJP's campaign was led by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the party had set a target of 200+ seats. However, it could not even breach the 100-mark, winning 77 constituencies. TMC bagged 213, however, Mamata Banerjee lost the Nandigram fight to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari. Former Attorney General & Constitutional law expert Soli Sorabjee died on Friday. The 91-year-old veteran lawyer passed away after getting infected with Covid-19. Sorabjee had served as the Attorney General for India from 1989-90 & then from 1998-2004. The Former Attorney General was admitted to a private hospital in South Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled Sorabjee's demise. VP Venkaiah Naidu, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, RS Prasad and Smriti Irani also paid their tribute to the former Attorney General. NCP chief Sharad Pawar and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also tweeted and expressed their condolences. Born in 1930, Soli Sorabjee had been honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2002.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'didi did nothing for Matua community' remark. CM Banerjee challenged PM Modi by saying if she hasn't done anything for 'Matua community' then she will "quite the politics". "Narendra Modi said at a meeting in Krishnanagar that Mamata didi did nothing for Matua community. I'm publicly asking him to accept the challenge, if I haven't done anything for them then I will leave politics, if you are lying then you will do sit-ups holding ears," she said. The fifth phase of Bengal polls are scheduled to be held on April 17.
Continuing his attack on TMC during his campaigning in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Krishnanagar said that the double engine government will provide a new political environment to Bengal. "This holy land will be free from mafia, cow smuggling, infiltration," he said. Polling is underway for 44 assembly constituencies in 4th phase of West Bengal elections.
After BJP failed to wrest West Bengal from TMC despite a high pitch election campaign, state party chief Dilip Ghosh said BJP will analyse the election results as to what went wrong, but added that the party's performance since the last assembly elections has increased many fold. The BJP was leading on 77 seats, according to the latest information provided by the Election Commission which also showed TMC ahead on 213 of 294 seats.
Terming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "Tigress of Bengal" after the TMC was looking set to return for the third straight term, Shiv Sena congratulated the leader on party's performance in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said the democracy has won in West Bengal and the people of the state proved that they did not vote under any pressure. As per the latest Election Commission trends, TMC was leading on 205 seats while BJP was ahead in 79 constituencies.
