Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted support letter to form a government in Assam, state Governor appointed Himanta Biswa to be CM, informed Ranjeet Kumar Dass on May 09. "Our leader Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted a letter to Assam Governor, along with support letters from AGP and UPPL. After that, Governor issued an order, which reads, "I, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam, hereby appoint Himanta Biswa Sarma to be CM," said State BJP chief Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
A week after results of the Assam Assembly elections were announced, the Bharatiya Janata Party finally ended the suspense about who will be the new Chief Minister. Himanta Biswa Sarma, a minister in the outgoing government has been selected for the top post. He will be replacing Sarbananda Sonowal who may be accommodated in the Union Cabinet in the future. Clash broke out between BJP and TMC workers near polling booth in Bidhannagar amid 5th phase of voting in West Bengal on April 17.
