Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Leaders' Summit on Climate via video conferencing on April 22.
During the summit, PM said, "Humanity is battling a global pandemic right now and this event is a timely reminder that grave threat of Climate Change hasn't disappeared.
It is a lived reality for millions around the world." "President Biden and I are launching 'India-Us Climate and Clean Energy Agenda 2030 partnership'.
We will help mobilise investments, demonstrate clean technologies and enable green collaborations," he added.
India's mammoth election began, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a third term amid promises of economic growth and Hindu nationalism. His Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faces a diverse opposition coalition, with concerns over unemployment and minority rights. Despite challenges, Modi's leadership-centric campaign and a fragmented opposition give BJP an edge, though issues like anti-incumbency remain significant.

Those tariffs are presently at about 7.5%.
While these Chinese imports "account for less than 1% of U.S. demand," the country's steel prices are 40% cheaper than America's, NPR reports. .
The White House is concerned that
this could prompt a surge of exports. .
China's policy-driven overcapacity poses

The Biden administration also sent officials to Mexico to discuss preventing Chinese steel from entering the U.S. via its southern neighbor. .

House Republican leaders have lambasted President Joe Biden for his perceived inaction in enforcing existing measures against Iran. Representative Steve Scalise, the No. 2 House Republican, voiced concerns over the administration's policies allegedly facilitating Iran's oil sales, which fund terrorism. The Biden administration faces mounting pressure to deter future attacks without exacerbating regional tensions or antagonising China, a major buyer of Iranian oil.

Study Warns Deadly , Ocean Upswells Increasing , Due to Climate Crisis.
'The Guardian' reports that a new study highlights how
the climate-disrupted ocean has pushed a number of aquatic
species to flee increasing temperatures in the tropics.
The forced migration has increasingly resulted in
sharks, rays and other species dying amid intense
upswells of cold water from the depths of the ocean.
In 2021, extreme cold upswelling off of
South Africa's coast caused a mass die-off of over
260 marine organisms from 81 different species.
A recent study found that these
upswellings are increasing in
both frequency and intensity. .
Scientists were able to study the 2021
mass die-off in precise detail, due to one of
the victims being a satellite-tagged bull shark.
The bull shark died in waters 10 degrees
Celsius below the temperature
tropical species are accustomed to.
Despite the shark's attempts to avoid the
cold swell, it could not escape the impacted
area before succumbing to hypothermia.
'The Guardian' reports that the team found
that the frequency of these cold upswelling
events has been increasing since 1981.
Other species killed in similar events
include whale sharks, bigeye trevallies, convict
surgeonfish and the common blacktip shark. .
