Herd of 60 red cows seen bathing in river in the wild in Thailand

This is the amazing moment a herd of 60 endangered red banteng cows seen bathing in a river in the wild in Thailand.

Footage shows the bantengs feeding on the thick grass growing by the riverbanks before taking a dip on the water in Uthai Thani province on May 12.

Photographers were invited to the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary to document the healthy animals showing that the area had been a healthy ecosystem for the animals.

Conservation Area Management Office director Thanit Nooyim said the cows were protected animals and the locals helped the park to take care of the species.

He said: ‘We struggled to preserve these endangered animals but with the help of the local living near the sanctuary were able to protect them.’ The wildlife conservationist added that the cows occasionally entered the residents’ farms and ate their crops but the people let the animals so they would not starve.

He said: ‘We want to thank the residents for their contributions.

The cows occasionally entered their farms to eat the crops but they allowed them to keep them fed.’ Other wildlife such as wild boars, barking deers, sambar deers, and peafowls could also be found inside the sanctuary.

The bantengs are Southeast Asian species of cattle listed as endangered by international non-government organisation International Union for Conservation of Nature due to the destruction of habitat, hunting, and commercial trade.
