Southern Miss is officially joining the Sun Belt Conference
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles officially accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt conference.
USM will be the 7th program to leave Conference USA.
The Golden Eagles will become the 13th member of the Sun Belt on July 1, 2023.
The Golden Eagles will pay about $3 million in exit fees over the next couple of years.
USM feels this is good move because they save on travel, can reignite regional rivalries and gain more exposure with ESPN's partnership with the Sun Belt.
