Taiwan's President confirms US troops are training military on the island
The leader of Taiwan, the island thrust into the center of rising tensions between the United States and China, said the threat from Beijing is growing “every day,” as for the first time she confirmed the presence of American troops on Taiwanese soil.
Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed to former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou on Wednesday that external interference would not impede the "family reunion" between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. He emphasised that all issues are open for discussion. Since the Republic of China government retreated to Taiwan in 1949 following a civil war loss to Mao Zedong's communists, no sitting Taiwanese leader has visited China. However, Ma, who served as president from 2008 to 2016, broke this pattern last year, marking the first visit by a former Taiwanese leader to China. This visit, Ma's second, occurs amid heightened military tensions in the region.

The recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook Taiwan, leaving widespread devastation in its path. Amidst the chaos, one structure stood resilient: Taipei 101, formerly the world's tallest skyscraper.
While countless buildings succumbed to the tremors, Taipei 101's survival can be attributed to its innovative design, featuring a massive steel orb known as a tuned mass damper. This architectural marvel, constructed with a combination of reinforced concrete and steel, enabled the skyscraper to sway with the seismic waves without suffering any damage.
