For decades, bee populations have
declined due to modern farming methods,
urban spread and expanding infrastructure.
Bee populations have been
reduced by 60% since 2004. .
'The Independent' reports that part of this
dramatic loss is due to the struggle bees face in
finding and traveling to other habitable areas.
Buglife, an invertebrate conservation charity,
has created the B-Lines project to develop a series
of 'insect pathways' through countrysides and towns.
According to Paul Hetherington, a campaigner
at Buglife, planting bee-friendly flowers
can help bees find suitable habitats.
Anyone can get involved,
even if it’s just a window box.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) website
offers advice on the best flowers to plant
to help sustain bee populations.
