Suspect identified in Salman Rushdie attack
Police say a 24-year-old man identified as Hadi Matar, from Fairview, New Jersey, is suspected of rushing to the stage at the Chautauqua Institution, attacking novelist Salman Rushdie as he was being introduced to give a talk on artistic freedom to an audience of hundreds.
New York State Police have identified the suspect in the stabbing of author Salman Rushdie as a man from New Jersey. Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, Bergen County, was to be arraigned Friday evening.
