US approves $1.1 bn arms sale to Taiwan, tensions with China increase | Oneindia news *International
China has threatened to take counter measures amid the already increasing tensions as The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $1.1 billion sale of military equipment to Taiwan.
The equipments include 60 anti-ship missiles and 100 air-to-air missiles as the tensions between China and Taiwan get fanned again.
Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed to former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou on Wednesday that external interference would not impede the "family reunion" between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. He emphasised that all issues are open for discussion. Since the Republic of China government retreated to Taiwan in 1949 following a civil war loss to Mao Zedong's communists, no sitting Taiwanese leader has visited China. However, Ma, who served as president from 2008 to 2016, broke this pattern last year, marking the first visit by a former Taiwanese leader to China. This visit, Ma's second, occurs amid heightened military tensions in the region.

The recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook Taiwan, leaving widespread devastation in its path. Amidst the chaos, one structure stood resilient: Taipei 101, formerly the world's tallest skyscraper.
While countless buildings succumbed to the tremors, Taipei 101's survival can be attributed to its innovative design, featuring a massive steel orb known as a tuned mass damper. This architectural marvel, constructed with a combination of reinforced concrete and steel, enabled the skyscraper to sway with the seismic waves without suffering any damage.

Former top generals, Mark Milley and Kenneth McKenzie, testified about the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, blaming Biden's delayed evacuation orders. They criticized the administration's decision-making and highlighted State Department failures. Milley and McKenzie regretted not starting the evacuation sooner, unsure of the exact number of Americans left behind. The Biden administration dismissed their claims as political.
