Rachel Reeves accuses government of ‘energy disarmament’
Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has told the Labour Party conference that she will be the first "green chancellor" and has accused the Tories of "energy disarmament".
She added that fracking "will not happen" under a Labour government, and that "the only sustainable solution to the energy crisis" would involve investing in renewables and nuclear power.

Police should investigate allegations an MP misused campaign funds, Labour has said. Mark Menzies lost the Conservative whip after claims emerged that he had used political donations to cover medical expenses. Menzies disputes the allegations. The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has condemned the racist remarks allegedly made by a top Tory donor. According to the Guardian, Frank Hester, who has given £10m to the Tories in the past year, made racist comments about leftwing MP Diane Abbott at a meeting in 2019, including that she made him "want to hate all black women". Mr Khan said the comments were "clearly racist and despicable." There has been increasing pressure on the Conservatives to return the money donated by Mr Hester.
