Solidarity with Iran as worldwide protests staged over death of Mahsa Amini
Protests have taken place in cities across the world in solidarity with Iranians outraged at the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who died after being arrested.
Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour, a Grammy award winner presented by US First Lady Jill Biden, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for his anthem supporting the 2022 protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. Hajipour shared part of the judgement against him on Instagram, coinciding with Iran's parliamentary election day. The court sentenced him to three years and eight months for "propaganda against the system" and "encouraging people to protest," citing his alleged failure to express adequate regret for releasing the song.
