The government has made a U-turn following a campaign to make assaulting a shop worker a separate criminal offence. Rishi Sunak announced on Wednesday that his government would be amending its Criminal Justice Bill to bring in the new offence. Conservative MP William Wragg has revealed he was blackmailed into sharing his colleagues’ phone numbers after sharing intimate images of himself. Mr Wragg said on Thursday he was “manipulated" into giving personal phone numbers to a man he met on a dating app. Scotland Yard confirmed it was in contact with Leicestershire Police and Parliamentary Security amid concerns other MPs and their staff could be victims of blackmail.
