Calcutta high court: Govt can't acquire land till full compensation paid
Friday, 20 October 2023 The Calcuttahigh court has said that the West Bengal government cannot acquire land until compensation has been paid in full. Justice Bibek Chaudhuri on Wednesday made it clear that "Section 38 of the 2013 Act creates a bar against taking possession of the acquired land before payment of the entire compensation amount" and ordered status quo on a possession dispute till December 15. The land was acquired to construct a bypass connecting Chanchal to NH81.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended two suspects - Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Taha - in connection with Bengaluru's Rameswaram Cafe blast case on Friday. The two were nabbed near West Bengal's Kolkata. Mussavir Hussain Shazib has been identified as the alleged "mastermind" behind the low-intensity blast that occurred at a prominent eatery in Bengaluru on March 1. Shazib is accused of placing the improvised explosive device (IED) at the cafe. Additionally, Abdul Matheen Taha is implicated as a co-conspirator in the incident. Both Taha and Shazib hail from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, according to statements from the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
