Six acquitted in cases of arson, robbery during 2013 UP riots

IndiaTimes Friday, 27 October 2023
A local court in UP has acquitted six accused in a case related to communal riots in Muzaffarnagar in 2013. The court cited "lack of evidence" for the acquittal. The accused were charged with arson, robbery, and spreading religious hatred. An FIR was registered against eight people, two of whom died during the trial. The riots resulted in the burning down of several houses, predominantly belonging to minorities, and the displacement of over 50,000 people. At least 62 people lost their lives during the riots.

Samajwadi Cadre's Pitch Dimple Yadav for PM as Mainpuri Gears Up for Polls Oneindia

In the heart of Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, the stronghold of the Samajwadi Party, the party's cadre is rallying behind their local MP and party stalwart, Dimple Yadav, with an ambitious call – to see her as the next Prime Minister of India. As the region gears up for polling on May 7, the voices on the ground paint a picture of disillusionment with the incumbent BJP government, which they believe has failed to live up to its promises. The party workers allege that the ruling dispensation has neglected the needs and aspirations of the people, and they see Dimple Yadav as a beacon of hope – a leader who understands the grassroots issues and can steer the nation towards progress. With fervent support from the party's base, the Samajwadi Party is gearing up for a fierce battle, aiming to regain its foothold in the state and potentially propel Dimple Yadav to the national stage. #LokSabhaElections #LokSabhaPolls #Elections2024 #LokSabhaElections2024 #LSPolls2024 ~PR.152~PR.282~ED.103~HT.98~##~
