Surgeon sedates patients, goes for 4-hour 'tea break'
A surgeon at a government-aided tubectomy camp in Nagpur, India, left four women sedated and unattended for four hours after administering anesthesia and going on a "tea break". The surgeon, who is diabetic, claimed to have suffered a hypoglycemic attack. Locals claimed the doctor displayed uneasiness and drove off to Nagpur, leaving patients in the lurch. The incident prompted an inquiry by a three-member panel, which confirmed that all eight operations were successful. The incident highlights the need for better management and availability of accredited surgeons at such camps.
