From darkness to life: Assam village erupts in joy at rescue of 2 of its own

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 28 November 2023
The dam broke in a gush of joy late Tuesday in Ramfalbil village as news arrived of two of its own - Ram Prasad Narzary and Sanjay Basumatary - emerging safely from Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel. Sanjay's brother Rocket Basumatary, who escaped being trapped inside the tunnel, was also part of the rescue effort. Ram Prasad's family had been concerned about his risky job in the tunnel as they faced a financial crisis. Ramfalbil village has limited employment opportunities due to the lack of avenues for jobless youth after the end of the Bodo insurgency.
