Rajya Sabha suspends 45 opposition MPs for defying rules and authority
Monday, 18 December 2023 Rajya Sabha suspends 45 Opposition MPs, including Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, for defying House rules and authority of the Chair. MPs continuously shouted slogans, entered the Well, and displayed placards to demand a government statement on the LS security breach. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced suspension of 34 MPs for the remaining session and 11 pending the report of the RS privileges committee. The suspended MPs include TMC's Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Mohammed Nadimul Haque, DMK's N R Elango, RJD's Manoj Kumar Jha, and SP's Ram Gopal Yadav.
