Lioness hit by goods train in Gujarat; survives with minor injuries

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 3 January 2024
A lioness in Gujarat's Amreli district was injured when it was hit by a goods train near Vijapadi railway station. The incident occurred at around 5 AM while the train was on its way to Surendranagar from Mahuva. The 7-8 year old lioness suffered minor injuries and was rescued and shifted to an animal centre for treatment. The state government has implemented various measures to prevent unnatural deaths of lions, including the appointment of veterinary doctors, introduction of an ambulance service, building speed-breakers, installing signboards, regular foot patrolling, and building parapet walls near forests. Radio-collaring has also been used to track the movement of Asiatic lions near Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.
