SC stays Bombay HC order directing bypoll for Pune LS seat, but pulls up EC for lethargy

Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Bombay high court order directing holding of immediate bypolls to a Pune Lok Sabha seat that fell vacant in March last year due to MP Girish Bapat's death, but took exception to Election Commission's lethargy in acting with alacrity to provide representation to people of the constituency. Bombay HC on December 13 had directed EC to immediately hold bye-elections to a Pune Lok Sabha seat while asking the commission how it had conducted bypolls for constituencies which fell vacant after March.

LS Polls 2024: Election Commission asks AAP to modify its Lok Sabha election campaign song| Oneindia

On April 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise the content of its Lok Sabha campaign song to adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI guidelines. The AAP was requested to make necessary modifications to the song and resubmit it for certification. “The phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” showing an aggressive mob holding the photo of Arvind Kejriwal showing him behind bars, casts aspersions on the Judiciary.
