Pak national arrested along international border in Jammu
Tuesday, 16 January 2024 A 20-year-old Pakistani intruder has been arrested by BSF from a forward area along the international border in Jammu’s Makwal. Officials on Tuesday said BSF troops observed suspicious movement along the international border in the Makwal area. They challenged the suspect and took him into custody. A Pakistan national identity card identifying the intruder as Muhammad Sadiq has been recovered from the intruder. Sadiq, the intruder is being interrogated.

In a tragic incident, three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel lost their lives, and dozens were injured after a bus carrying them skidded off a hilly road and plunged into a gorge in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The bus, which was en route for election duty, was carrying 35 BSF personnel when the accident occurred in the Brell Waterhail area. Six of the injured are in critical condition and have been rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. The civilian driver of the bus was also injured in the accident, which has shocked the local community.

Since August 5, the Petrapole border between India and Bangladesh has been under tight security with reduced movement of people and goods. The increased measures are in response to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. Despite the overall decline in trade, the border has facilitated the entry of several Bangladeshis into India for medical treatment. The unrest has led to a near-total halt in trade, impacting traders significantly. Border Security Force (BSF) Director General DS Chaudhary has visited the site, and on Tuesday, some Bangladeshis and Indians stranded in each other's countries managed to return home.

In a swift response to the escalating unrest in Bangladesh, Meghalaya has imposed a night curfew along its international border, effective immediately from 6 pm to 6 am daily. This measure restricts movement within a 200-meter zone of the Indian side of the border to address potential security threats. With nine battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF) already deployed, the state government is prepared to send additional forces if necessary.
