Karnataka Congress MLA bats for stopping guarantee schemes if party fails to win max seats in LS polls
Wednesday, 31 January 2024 Congress MLA H C Balakrishna advocates stopping Karnataka government's guarantee programmes if Congress fails to win maximum seats in Lok Sabha polls. The Magadi MLA said he had spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar and added it was for the people to decide whether they want 'akshate' (rice grains mixed with turmeric and ghee distributed by organisers or volunteers of RSS/ VHP ahead of Ayodhya's Ram Mandir consecration) or five guarantee schemes.
On Wednesday, the Election Commission took action against former Telangana CM and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao, barring him from campaigning for 48 hours, effective from 8 pm today. This decision was made due to "derogatory and objectionable statements" made by Rao against the Congress party. The EC's action followed a complaint filed by Congress leader G Niranjan, prompting the commission to issue a notice to K Chandrashekar Rao. The EC noted that Rao had previously received several advisories and instructions regarding his speeches.
