BSP sever ties with Akali Dal, to contest alone in Punjab
Tuesday, 13 February 2024 The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced the termination of its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, citing the latter's alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The decision comes three days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah mentioned ongoing talks between the BJP and SAD. Despite SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal downplaying the alliance talks, BSP has chosen to contest the elections in Punjab independently.

The second phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh on April 26 holds high stakes for several prominent faces, including actress Hema Malini, actor Arun Govil, and former BSP leader Danish Ali. In the eight constituencies going to polls – Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Mathura – unemployment has emerged as a major concern, with youth expressing anger over recruitment exam paper leaks and lack of job opportunities. The BJP had won seven of these seats in 2019, with Amroha being the lone exception, where Danish Ali had emerged victorious on a joint BSP-SP-RLD ticket. Oneindia brings you special reports.
